The Muxes, individuals who identify as neither men nor women but instead embody a third category of mixed gender, including an estimated 3,000 people living in a region of the country called Juchitan de Zaragoza.
The word muxe is thought to derive from the 16th-century Spanish word for “woman”, mujer.
